Irene P. Spurgeon, age 90, passed away Sunday August 2, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.
Irene was born March 1, 1925 in Sarcoxie, MO to William Pryor and Anna “Burkey” Pryor. She was a lifetime resident of Carthage. Irene was retired from Juvenile Shoe Factory in Sarcoxie after several years. She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #2590, Surviving Spouses of Carthage, and active at the Over Sixty Center.
Irene was united in marriage to Owen R. Spurgeon in Greenfield, MO on August 29, 1942. He preceded her in death September 1997. Irene is survived by one daughter, Linda Wallace of Carl Junction, two sons, Owen R. Spurgeon Jr. of Carthage and Monty Spurgeon and wife Connie of Reeds, two sisters, Maxine Page of Springfield and Doris Cook of DeCatur of Alabama, five grandchildren, Misty Spradling, Kristi Benefield, Brandee Waters, Eric Spurgeon, and Brittney Hooper, ten great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Mary Koscelnik and Betty Marshal, one half sister, Dorothy Whitaker, and one half brother William “Buck” Pryor.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday August 8, 2015 at Dudman Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday August 7, 2015 at Ulmer Funeral Home.
