Vera Lou Kent, age 75 of Joplin, Missouri, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday evening, August 26, 2015 following an extended illness.
Vera was born October 8, 1939 to the late Ira Hughes and Mary Buckles Hughes in Mounds, Illinois. She graduated from Washington High School in Washington, IL and later received her B.S. in English at Quincy University. Vera worked as an administrator for the Girl Scouts in Peoria, Illinois for many years. She was a member and Sunday school teacher at Wildwood Baptist Church in Joplin.
On April 19, 1969 she married James L. Kent, Sr. in Ft. Madison, Iowa. He survives of the home.
Additional survivors include a son, James L. Kent, Jr. of Webb City; daughter, Jame Styrwold and husband, Todd of Juneau, Alaska; grandchildren, Jacob and Tyler Styrwold, also of Juneau; sisters, Vivian Able of Peoria, IL. and Jean Hulsey of Lebanon, Mo.; many extended family and friends that will miss her.
Other than her parents, Vera is preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Brown and Gladys Thompson.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, August 29th at 6:30 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Wildwood Baptist Church in care of the mortuary.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
