Jerry Wood

Jerry Dale Wood, age 85, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 1:53 p.m. on Sunday, February 9, 2020, at the Ozark Nursing and Care Center in Ozark, Missouri. He was born August 15, 1934, in Lawrence County, Missouri, the son of Edward and Charlotte (Nivens) Wood.

Jerry was a 1952 graduate of Miller High School in Miller, Missouri and was a U.S. Army veteran, stationed in Germany. He worked for 33 ½ years at the Mt. Vernon Post Office retiring as the Postmaster. Jerry was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon, the Mt. Vernon American Legion, Rotary Club and the Men’s Golf League. He loved his family, going fishing, camping, hunting, playing golf and gardening.

On March 15, 1959, he married Wilma Vacca, in Springfield, Missouri.








Jerry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wilma; one daughter, Cheryl Sisco and her husband, Charley, of Chadwick, Missouri; three grandchildren, Joshua Sisco and his wife, Ashley, of Chadwick, Jeremy Sisco and his wife, Abby, of Ozark and Zachary Johnson and his wife, Bethany, of Coffeyville, Kansas; four great-grandchildren, Finley, Luke, Cole and Grayson; two brothers, Larry Wood and his wife, Mary, of Monett, Missouri and Don Wood and his wife, Betty, of Billings, Missouri; two sisters, Sue Cobb of Republic, Missouri and Wanda Witherspoon and her husband, DeWayne, of Mt. Vernon; brother-in-law, Newell Bowles, of Miller and aunt, Reva Lois West, of Carl Junction, Missouri.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Charlotte, his stepmom, Leta Fieker, daughter, Charlotte Johnson, sister, Lynda Bowles and brother-in-law, Dennis Cobb.

A funeral service, under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2020, at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon. Burial will follow at the Goss Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00–7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2020, in the funeral home chapel.
