Irene Medlin, age 90 of Joplin, passed away at 4:05 a.m. Friday, February 14, 2020 at National Health Care.
Irene was born October 25, 1929 in Tipton Ford, Missouri to the late Allie Moore and Nina Hollingsworth Moore and lived in the Joplin/Pittsburg area her entire life.
Irene worked as a professor at Pittsburg State University for fifteen years. She served as director of Head Start for Jasper and Newton Counties and owned and operated Nova Printing. Her greatest love was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. Irene was an amazing cook and a skilled seamstress. She loved hosting family events including anyone who needed or wanted a place to be for the holidays. She selflessly loved and served everyone around her and imparted to them a love for learning and the importance of family.
She married Herbert B. Medlin Jr. on May 8, 1947 in Neosho, Missouri. He preceded her in death on July 5, 2010.
Also preceded in death by siblings, Lenora Marken, Ross Moore, Cloyd Moore, and daughter-in-law Christi Medlin.
Survivors include two sons, Curt Medlin and wife Kathy of Carl Junction, MO and Kent Medlin, of Joplin, MO. Grandchildren, Salena Tate and husband Jason of Carl Junction, MO; Hillary Queiroz and husband Aldair, of Manaus, Brazil; Micah Medlin of Carl Junction, MO; Derek Medlin and wife Elizabeth of Whitehouse Station, NJ; Mark Medlin of Joplin, MO; and eight great grandchildren.
Services are planned for a later date at Mount Hope Cemetery. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
Memorial contributions can be made to Passion and Compassion Ministries in care of Parker Mortuary.
