Grant Winters

Mr. Grant Winters, Jr., 67, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, in the comfort of his home surround by his loving family.

Grant was born on October 26, 1952, in Mississippi to the union of the late Grant Winters, Sr. and Flora Winters. Grant worked as a magazine keeper for Dyno Nobel for the last 18 years and previously worked in restaurant management. He loved to fish, especially for Crappie, and spent much of his free time doing so. He also enjoyed doing yard work.

Grant was one of the hardest workers, always putting in his time and providing for his family. He was truthful, sometimes to a fault, but always held others’ best interests at heart. Grant was a devout Catholic and very proud of his faith. He was a longtime member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Joplin. Grant will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

On May 29, 1998, he was united in marriage to Laurie Sprouse and together they have shared the last 21 years. She survives.










Additional survivors include his three children, Michael Winters of the State of Michigan, Eric Winters and wife, Shari, of Joplin, and Nicole Winters of Illinois; two step-children, Jessica Sargent of Joplin and Charles Sargent and wife, Mika, of Oronogo; twelve grandchildren, Demetrius, Baylie, Eric Jr., Dayza, DaMarco, Alexis, Quinten, A.J., Tatum, Jackson, Charlie and Maddie; and four siblings, Shirley Hopkins of Ohio, Sam Winters and wife, Joyce, of Michigan, Curtis Winters and wife, Cheryl, of Michigan and Darin Winters of Ohio; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Grant was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Nora; a brother-in-law, Earl Hopkins; and a grandson, Gregory.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Joplin with Fr. J. Friedel officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday at the church. A private burial will take place at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
