Mr. Richard Kent Newell, 74, of Goodman, Missouri, departed this life on Friday afternoon, February 14, 2020, while at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Missouri, after a battle with cancer.
Richard entered this life on October 17, 1945, in Anderson, Missouri, the youngest of four sons born to the late Dwight and Blanche (Lanning) Newell. He was a lifelong resident of Goodman, Missouri and was a 1963 graduate of Goodman High School.
Following high school he was drafted into the United States Army serving his country faithfully during Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on August 10, 1967.
On June 5, 1970, he was united in marriage to Ruby Harp and to this union a daughter and son were born. Throughout his life he worked in the field of carpentry and building maintenance. He also owned several pieces of rental property in the area. He enjoyed working in his yard and spending countless hours with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Ralph, Jimmy and John Newell.
Richard is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Ruby Newell of the home; two children, Sherri Sorrell and husband, Kern, of Neosho and Roger Newell and wife, Christina, of Goodman; six grandchildren, Emily, Kinsey, Hannah, Kelton, Chase and Carson; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Memorial services for Richard will be held on Thursday morning, February 20, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Michael Buckley officiating.
