Betty Ann King, age 89, passed away at 11:31 pm, Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, MO following an illness.
Betty was born November 18, 1930 in Edwards County, Kansas. Her parents were C. E. and Minnie (Speer) Mathes. She had lived in the Baxter Springs/Riverton area since 1956.
She grew up in Edwards County Kansas and graduated from Offerle Kansas High School in 1948. She was a member of Town and Country Quilters, Joplin, MO. She was a member of Park Hill Nazarene Church, Galena, KS where she had been a long-time Sunday school teacher. She was a past member of the church board and actively participated in Vacation Bible school. Among her favorite pastimes were quilting, sewing, and cooking.
Betty was married to Ivan O King on August 6, 1949 in Offerle, KS. He preceded her in death May 6, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Robert King and one infant sister.
Surviving are two sons, Leon King, Columbus, and Larry King (Belinda), Baxter Springs; four daughters, Sondra Davis (Bruce) , Baxter Springs, Barbara Nicholas, Joplin, Kathy Cookerly (John), Joplin, and Cheryl Campbell (Brian) Riverton; one brother, Duane Mathes,(Sue) Kinsley; one sister, Delores Weiss (Earl) Greeley, CO; 18 grandchildren and over 30 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm. Friday, February 21, 2020 at Park Hill Nazarene Church, Galena, KS.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 om, Friday, February 21, 2020 at Park Hill Nazarene Church, Galena, KS. Pastor Tracy Rowe will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Baxter Springs,KS.
Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International in care of the funeral home.
