Clay McDowell

Clay McDowell, age 49, passed away at 11:06 pm, Monday, February 24, 2020 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, Missouri following an illness.

Clay was born July 6, 1970 in Parsons, Kansas. His parents were Gary and Georgeann (Records) McDowell. He had lived in Joplin all his adult life.

He grew up in Oswego, KS. He graduated from Altamont (KS) High School with the class of 1988. He was currently employed as a salesman at S and H Farm Supply and had previously worked at ABC Bearings and later in O’Reilly Auto Parts in Joplin. Clay was an accomplished musician and had played lead guitar in various area bands. He was a member of the NRA and enjoyed his collection of firearms. He also collected guitars and drum sets. His greatest joy was helping other people.








Surviving is his father and step-mother, Gary and Beverly McDowell, Oswego; one brother, James Eric McDowell, Springfield, MO; two step-sisters, Debbie Stewart, Whidbey Island, WA and Kimberly Kinley, Cleveland, OK; and several aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Georgeann McDowell in 2001.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, February 29, 2020 in Oswego Cemetery, Oswego, KS. Kent Wagner will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home, Oswego, KS.
