Bob Hoskins

(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)

Robert “Bob” Louis Hoskins, Jr., age 70 of Joplin, Mo., passed away early Saturday, February 22, 2020, at Freeman Hospital following a long battle with ALS.

Bob was born on October 21, 1949 in Hutchinson, Ks., the son of Robert, Sr. and Lillian (Miller) Hoskins. Bob proudly served his country as part of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he returned home and began working as a self-employed plumber for many years, until illness forced him to retire in 2018. Bob enjoyed cars, everything from classic cars to Nascar, he enjoyed being out on the water fishing, golf and mountain biking.

He was great with his hands and was a perfectionist. His attention to detail allowed him to build and rebuild furniture, kitchens, original tools, boats, go-carts and more. There was nothing Bob couldn’t conquer once he set to it.

He loved to tinker and spend time at his shop. He passed the days tending to his garden, rebuilding cars and teaching his grandson, Trent, everything he knew. The shop was his special space, he always had multiple projects going and cherished his time there. But most importantly, Bob’s most precious time was spent with his grandchildren and family.

He fell in love and married his high school sweetheart, Jill McKinney on August 31, 1968, she survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters; Amy Hoskins and husband Adam Troyak of Fayetteville, Ar., Emily Hoskins of Joplin, one brother; David Hoskins of Carterville, Mo., two sisters; Andrea Penner and Carol O’Riordan both of Hutchinson, Ks., and four grandchildren; Lillian Troyak, Jesse Troyak, Trenton Hoskins and Kassidy Hoskins.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Cynthia Gristak.

A memorial service has been scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
