Orville Jordan

Orville Dee Jordan, 70, Neosho, MO entered into rest February 18, 2020. He was born June 1, 1949 in Neosho to Robert Dee and Dorthy (Jackson) Jordan.

Orville served two tours in Vietnam, in the US Army with the Military Police, during which time he was awarded several medals, including a Bronze Star. He had been afflicted by Agent Orange and over the last twelve years, his health had steadily declined, leading to his time in a wheelchair at Medicalodge. 

Orville received his GED, then graduated from Crowder College with his wife, Cassandra in 1980. He was the first person in his family to graduate college. Orville worked at many jobs including hauling hay and working on his Granddad, Carl Jackson’s well drilling sites. He also worked several years at Mid-Con Cables in Joplin, MO and fifteen years at Talbot Wire as a machine operator. He could fix anything and everything. 

Orville served on the Airport Board for several years. He was a ham operator and loved CB radios; his handle was “The General”. He served as a room parent, storm watcher, and wore many hats in the church, including Sunday School Superintendent, and often co-teaching with Cassandra. He also was a substitute teacher and briefly drove a school bus for the Neosho R-5 School District. He loved hunting, fishing, and the outdoors; he also wrote poetry and short stories, some of which were published and won awards. He loved his family at the Banner Nazarene Church and was a member of the Burch Baptist Church, which his family helped build in 1949. 

Orville married Cassandra “Sandy” Kathleen Larson on April 4, 1974 in Neosho; she survives. 

He is also survived by three children, Amy Bellairs and husband, James of Joplin, MO, Robert Eric Jordan and wife, Christina of Neosho, MO, and Shelly Amber Jordan and her partner, Andy Dillinger of Kansas City, MO; three grandchildren, Jordan Michael Keith Bellairs, Sarah Lyn Renee Bellairs, and Cheyenne Jordan; and two great grandchildren, Grayson Evert Finn and Aspen Michael Hilton. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. Orville is now free to roam heaven, strong as an ox once again and in conversation with Jesus whom he loved and faithfully served.

Services will be held 10 am, Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, MO with Dennis Bergen and Pastor Del Hampton officiating. Interment, with full military honors, will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Neosho.
