(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Ivalene M. Smith-Sweeney, age 83, of Joplin, passed away on Saturday October 31, 2020, at Spring River Christian Village, following an illness.
Ivalene was born on July 4, 1937 in Ash Grove, MO, the daughter of the late William and Rose Carolyn (Smart) Woody. She has been a lifetime area resident. She worked as a splicer for Midcon Cable for many years. She also worked for Integrity Hospice as a care giver. She retired in 1999. She was a member of Harmony Heights Baptist Church.
Ivalene married Carl Smith on January 29, 1951 in Bentonville, AR, together they were blessed with ten children. She was a devoted wife and mother dedicating most of her life to raising her children. Carl preceded her in death in 1986. She married Tommy Sweeney in 1993 and he preceded her in death in 2008. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley Carter in 2018.
She is survived by nine children, HuRay Smith and wife Myrna, Joplin, Carolyn Rea, Webb City, MO, Terry Smith and wife Rhonda, Reeds, MO, W.C. Smith, Joplin, Mary Russell and husband Jack, Joplin, Teresa Joslen and husband Billy, Carthage, MO, Jimmy Smith and wife Sherry, Carthage, MO, Pattie Fletchall and husband Joe, Joplin, and Debbie Kile and husband Mark, Ryland Heights, KY; eighteen grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary, prior to the graveside service.
