(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)John E. “Fox” Gregory Jr., age 64, of Joplin, Missouri passed away peacefully at Mercy Hospital and headed to his Heavenly home on Friday, August 11, 2023.
Fox was born September 24, 1958, in Joplin, Missouri to John Gregory Sr. and Judith (Roberts) Gregory who both preceded him in death.
Fox, along with his then wife, Mary, were owner/operators of Babe’s Drive Inn restaurant in Joplin for many years and before that, they owned and operated Fox’s Drive Inn in Duenweg from 1986-90. He was also a volunteer firefighter in Duenweg and loved being a part of that community.
He and his family enjoyed fishing trips to nearby lakes and ponds even though they wouldn’t always catch a lot of fish but they did have a good time trying to reel in “the big one”.
Fox always loved the Kansas City Chiefs and so needless to say, the past few years have been a real gift to a true Chiefs fan! He also loved basketball and watched Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls and other great teams in the NBA, religiously for many years.
Fox is survived by his daughter, Sara Gregory, Jasper, Missouri; his son, John Gregory III, Joplin, Missouri; brother, Joe Gregory and wife Kristi Compton from Dallas TX; sister, Jennifer Gregory and wife, Janet Ellis from Branson, Mo; brother, Jake Gregory and wife Kim from Joplin, Mo; and one grandson, Jaxson Gregory, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and many close friends who Fox considered family.

Fox had a great sense of humor (sometimes irreverent at times) and delighted in making other people laugh as often as possible. He always bragged that he was the “funniest” sibling. He also thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship with his wonderful close knit neighbors at Redwood Gardens.
Memorial services will be 3:00 pm Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at Mason-Woodard Mortuary with Pastor Dan Wermuth officiating. The family will receive friends at 2:00 pm prior to the service at 3:00 pm.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory Joplin, Missouri.
