(From Parker Mortuary)Phillip R. Chriss, age 82, Joplin, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Freeman West Hospital with family at his side.
Phil was born April 17, 1941 in Joplin, son of the late Robert and Dealza (Lytle) Chriss. He grew up in this area and graduated from Carterville High School before attending Missouri Southern State University.
He held several jobs over the years including being a stocker for Big Smith, a warehouse worker for Boeing, and then a custodian for the Joplin R VIII School District. He has lived in Pasadena, CA, Des Moines, IA, Seattle, WA, and Joplin. He loved to fish, watch sports, and go to events in Branson. He was a longtime member of Forest Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara J. Chriss; sisters-in-law, Adrienne Hicks of Lowell, IN and Janet Grisso and husband Dale of Rosfield, GA; niece, Rebecca; nephews, Dale Grisso, Jr., Eligah Grisso, Ryan Cray, and mark Hicks and wife Heather; special cousin, Cid and Cy Knight of Carthage, MO.
Funeral service will be Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in Forest Park Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. John Swadley officiating.
Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Forest Park Baptist Church Chapel on Thursday from 1:00 until service time.
