Ron Jones

(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)

Ronald Lee Jones (91), of Joplin, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on January 1, 2024.

Ron was born to Ray and Bethel Jones on August 4, 1932, in Bixby, Oklahoma. Ron was a member of the Armed Forces, serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1956. He graduated from East Central State College in Ada, Oklahoma with his Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1961, where he met and married his wife of nearly 60 years, Frances Jones.

Ron graduated from West Texas State University with his Master of Education in 1966. He became a school teacher, teaching History in Pittsburg, Kansas before moving to Joplin in 1968 with Fran to open their first Radio Shack store, which they owned for 50 years. Ron quickly gained respect in the community and over the years became known as the Radio Shack man, at one point owning the oldest Radio Shack Franchise in the world until closing in 2018.

Ron was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Webb City, Missouri, and proclaimed his love for Christ through his involvement as a church deacon, in his Sunday school class, in the community, and as the leader of his family.

Ron was preceded in passing by his wife, Fran Jones. Ron is survived by his three children: Phil Jones and wife Peggy, Scott Jones and wife Ley, and Stephanie Jones, as well as 5 grandchildren: Jeremy Jones and wife Kayla, Josh Woodmansee, Krissy Jones, Ben Woodmansee, and Aidan Jones. Ron is also survived by 5 siblings: Shirley Cole, Val Jean Jones, Wayne Jones, Pat Jones, and Kevin Jones, as well as many beloved extended family and friends.

Ronnie, as he was known by his siblings, loved few things more than he loved OU football, a trait handed down to him by his mother. Although he loved his Sooners, he also loved and supported local sports and was a long time MSSU Lionbacker, specifically for the Lions Cross Country Team. As a geography enthusiast, he enjoyed reading maps almost as much as he enjoyed reading Louis L’Amour westerns. He loved to travel, whether it be a cross country road trip, across the sea, or a simple walk or bike ride with his kids or grandkids. Nothing brought him a bigger smile than beating anyone in a good card game, dominoes, or ping pong. Though he loved travel and sports, above all he loved the Lord and his family.

Ron’s family will host a visitation on Friday, January 12th from 5:00-7:00pm at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Webb City, MO. There will be a graveside service on Saturday, January 13th at 10:00am at Ozark Memorial Cemetery in Joplin, MO. Ron will be buried next to his wife Fran.

Memorial contributions are requested to Emmanuel Baptist Church in care of Mason-Woodard Mortuary.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory of Joplin, MO.
