(From Parker Mortuary)Twyla Joan Murphy, passed away on January 6, 2024, in Joplin, Missouri, at the age of 69. She was born on November 21, 1954, in Joplin to the late Emmett and Alice O’Connell.
Twyla's journey through life was marked by her dedication to her children and the joy she found in her role as a grandmother.
She is survived by her life partner, Garland Davis, III; loving children; Jeannie Hill (Stephen) of Sarcoxie, Alice Johnson of Joplin, and Chris O'Connell of Miami, Oklahoma. Her legacy continues through her adored grandchildren, Hailey, Chevelle, Zane, Taylor, Zion, Mya, Keyshon, and Kaitland, and 18 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense happiness and pride to her life. She is also survived by her sister, Faye Hance of Michigan City, Indiana.
Twyla was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Teresa Collins; grandchildren, Ranon Chiles, Kya, and Breanna O'Connell, as well as her siblings, Charles Himes, George Himes, Janie Wood, Joyce Vance, Mary Lovell, Dollie Bigbee, Helen Riggs, Emmett Lee O'Connell and Jackie Lee O'Connell.
Twyla was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Teresa Collins; grandchildren, Ranon Chiles, Kya, and Breanna O'Connell, as well as her siblings, Charles Himes, George Himes, Janie Wood, Joyce Vance, Mary Lovell, Dollie Bigbee, Helen Riggs, Emmett Lee O'Connell and Jackie Lee O'Connell.
Twyla was a respected member of the Environmental Services team at Mercy Hospital. Her religion was a cornerstone of her life, and she found great joy in bible studies. She was an avid movie watcher.
Above all, family was the most important aspect of Twyla's life. She treasured every moment spent with her loved ones.
As we say goodbye to Twyla Joan Murphy, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a heart generously shared. Her influence and the memories she created will continue to be felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The family would like to thank Twyla’s life partner, Garland Davis, III, as well as the nurses from Springfield Mercy, Tiffany Woods and Emily Rowe. Dr.Lafrancis and the nursing staff at Mercy Joplin, And Phoenix Home Health and Hospice for the wonderful care they provided Twyla. As well as Riley Kittrell for the unwavering support.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 12, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel in Joplin, MO, with burial to follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. A visitation will be held Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, MO.
