Vernon Eide

(From Meadors Funeral Home)

Vernon E. Eide, of Republic, MO, went home to be with his Lord, surrounded by his loving family and precious dog Bailey, on January 31, 2024. Vernon was 85 years old. He was born on January 17, 1939, to John and Evelyn (Johnson) Eide in Schroeder, Minnesota and was one of seven children in the home.

He graduated from Cook County High School in Grand Marais, Minnesota with the class of 1957. He later attended Crowder College in Neosho, Missouri, graduating in 1984.

On June 25, 1960, Vernon married the love of his life, Joanne Gilpin. This union was blessed with one daughter, Linda. Vernon and Joanne loved to travel, especially in their RV. Vernon owned an RV dealership in rural Illinois for many years, contributing to his love of RVing. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycles, but most of all he loved his family and the time he was able to spend with them, especially his grand and great grandchildren. He was always excited to play cards with his great grandson. Vernon never met a stranger and would help anyone who needed it.

Vernon is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Kenneth, Edward, and Lawrence and a sister Julie.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Joanne, daughter Linda Kauffman, grandchildren Kris Kauffman and Ashley Jones and her husband Brandon, great grandchildren Callen and Reese Jones, his best four-legged buddy in the world, Bailey, brother Richard Eide, sister Lucille Nelson and her husband Charlie as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and countless friends.

A Celebration of Vernon's Life will be held in the springtime, so please check back and we will post the details as soon as a date is set.
