(From Clark Funeral Home)Mickey Faye Champ, 67, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on March 3, 2025. She was born on October 3, 1957, in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, to Benjamin and Sandra (Morerod) Smith.
After graduating from high school, Mickey attended Crowder College and later earned a bachelor’s degree from Missouri Southern State University. In 1991, she married Wesley Eugene Champ, with whom she shared 35 years of love and partnership. Wesley survives her.
Mickey was a dedicated English teacher for the Joplin Public Schools, where she touched the lives of countless students. She was also a devoted member of Victory Christian Center in Carthage, Missouri. Outside of her work, Mickey was an avid reader, passionate about astronomy, and loved spending time gardening.
She is survived by her father, Ben R. Smith of Neosho, Missouri; brothers, Ben Smith of Neosho and James (Linda) Smith of Franklin, Tennessee; brother-in-law, Douglas Skaggs of Willard, Missouri; nieces and nephews, Sarah Smith-Frigerio, Jed (Lynsey) Skaggs, Caleb (Lydia) Skaggs, Jerusha Skaggs, Silas Skaggs, Mariel Skaggs, Saundra Skaggs, Mason (Courtney) Skaggs, Marjorie Skaggs, Jackson Skaggs, Jacob Skaggs, Jennifer (Kyle) Calvert, Brandon (Coco) Smith, and Kristen (Aaron) Anderson; as well as numerous great-nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Mickey was preceded in death by her mother, Sandra Faye Smith; her sister, Linda Skaggs; and her infant sister, Leah Michelle Smith.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on Monday, March 10, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Victory Christian Center in Carthage, Missouri.
