Betty Joan Gaskin, age 80, Joplin, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at her home.
Betty was born December 17, 1933 in Lamar, Missouri, daughter of the late Harry Edward Barlow and Cleo Elizabeth Yount Barlow, and was later adopted by the late Fred Tiller. Betty graduated from Jasper High School, and also attended Joplin Junior College. She was an active member of the D.A.R., the Women’s Auxiliary of the local Elk’s Lodge #501 in Joplin, and while in California was a member of the Emblem Club. She enjoyed searching the history and genealogy of her family.
She married Doctor L. Gaskin on September 24, 1954 in Carthage, Missouri, and she followed his military career, and moved to California in 1963. She worked as an office manager for an accounting firm for over 25 years, and also sold Tupperware for several years. They moved back to the Joplin area in 1998.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Doctor L. Gaskin; son, Donald Leonard Gaskin of Sacramento, California; daughter, Diana Lynn Gaskin Willard and husband Donald of Duquesne, Missouri; grandchildren, David Willard, Eric Weber and wife Tiffany; great-grandchildren, Lillian Weber and Kaylee Triplett; sister, Ruth Crayne and husband Donald of Joplin; brothers, James Edward Barlow of Seneca, Missouri, Gene Barlow of Washington, and LeRoy Barlow of Springfield, Missouri.
Memorial services will be Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Bob Simon and Don Cook officiating. Friends are invited to go with the family to Paradise Cemetery, Jasper, Missouri, following the memorial service for a small service at the cemetery.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
