Jerry De Wayne Williams, age 76 of Joplin, passed away at 10:10 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2014 at Freeman West Hospital after a long illness.
Born October 6, 1937 in Alton, MO, he was the son of the late Orvis and Mildred Strain Williams and grew up in Norwood, MO. An over the road truck driver all of his working life, he retired from D & D Sexton in Carthage.
On January 15, 1977 he married Doris Darlene Smith in Shenandoah, IA. She survives.
Additional survivors include children, Jack Williams of Shenandoah, Michael Williams and wife Marie of Joplin, John Williams and wife Debbie of Springfield, Robin Ross and husband John of Carl Junction, MO, Richard Hodge and wife Chris of Waterloo, IA, Kenneth Hodge of Ackley, IA, K. Paul Hodge of Joplin; 19 grandchildren; 20 ½ great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Mary F. Williams of Exeter, MO.
Jerry was preceded in death by a son, Gary Dean Williams and two brothers, Orgel and Larry.
Graveside services will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Larry Sparks officiating. Pallbearers will be Jon Roberts, Michael Mathis, Ricky Koel, Ramsey Cloyd, Racheal Cloyd, Michael Williams II, Richard Ross and Jesse Tysor. The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
