William C. Chester, Sr., age 63 of Joplin, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Freeman West Hospital.
Born August 24, 1951 in Joplin, he was the son of the late Robert G. Chester and Agnes A. Callison Chester and was a lifetime Joplin resident. Bill was currently employed as the Shop Manager for Glen’s Diesel, where he had worked since 1980. He was a 1969 graduate of Memorial High School. Bill loved drag racing and was inducted into the MoKan Dragway Hall of Fame. He was a Christian.
On April 14, 1979, he married Wilma R. Stayton in Joplin. She survives.
Additional survivors include six children, Rhonda Wyrick and husband Aron, Candi Chester with Thomas Turner, Billy Chester with Lacey, John Sherrick, Jenny Tate and husband Timmy, all of Joplin, Lori Ward and husband Larry of Tulsa, OK; a brother, Ray Chester and wife Deb of Carl Junction, MO; a sister, Laura Jeanne Hess of Bentonville, AR; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A brother, Robert E. Chester, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Parker Chapel with Rev. Bob Simon officiating. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.
