Betty J. Pyles Martin, age 84 of Joplin, went home to Glory at 7:45 a.m. on Monday, September 1, 2014 at Spring River Christian Village after an extended illness.
Born February 23, 1930 in Joplin, she was the only child of the late Rufus and Minnie Walden Pyles. Betty attended Joplin schools and went on to college in Little Rock, AR. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Neosho, MO where she taught Sunday School and was a Mother of the Church. She was a loving caretaker to her spiritual and physical family. Betty served as president of the S.W. District of Women’s Missionary Association for 23 years. In 1953, Betty came to work for Kassab’s Inc. and held various positions for 45 years. She was honored many times for her outstanding services.
Survivors include Lee and Sharon Adair of Billings, MO and their children, Teara, Kana and Asia; Les Davis of Joplin; brother Henry Pullum and wife Ollie of Joplin with their children Deborah, Joyce, Henry Jr. and wife Maniya Pullum; Charles Cox, Jr. and wife Michelle, Sharon Young; cousins, Ernestine Carr and Charlene Calhoun and a host of grandnieces and grandnephews.
Funeral services will be held at Second Baptist Church of Neosho at 11:00 a.m. Friday with Pastor L.C. Anderson officiating. The casket will remain closed. Interment will follow at Parkway Cemetery in Joplin with Henry Pullum, Jr., Deacon Allen Beals, Larry Clark, James Clark, Gary Crane and Keith Jefferies serving as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Second Baptist Church of Neosho in care of Parker Mortuary.
