Richard “Dick” Gudgen, 72, of Webb City, MO, passed away at 12:24 p.m. Thursday, September 25, 2014, at his residence.
He was born July 15, 1942, at Pittsburg, KS, the son of Prentice E. and Gretta (Stuessi) Gudgen Sr. He attended Pittsburg schools and graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1960. Dick earned his undergraduate degree at Pittsburg State University and a MBA from George Washington University. After college Dick enlisted in the United States Navy and served for 20 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. After his military service, Dick went on to have a 17 year long career in the field of budget and finance for Hillsborough County in Tampa, Florida.
Dick was united in marriage to Karen Marie Coaker until she preceded him in death on December 31, 2000. Survivors include a daughter, Amy Walker and her husband Vic of Denver, CO; two sisters Barbara Bewley of Jackson, MS, and Mary “Mimi” Chapman of Houston, TX. Services will be at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at the Brenner Mortuary with Reverend Mark Chambers officiating. Private family burial will take place at the Highland Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Ozark Trails Council Memorial Fund to support camperships and advancements for local Scouts..
