John Lee Eby, age 85 of Joplin, passed away at 8:35 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Communities of Wildwood Ranch near Joplin.
Born July 23, 1929 in Joplin, he was the son of the late Clarence James Eby and Grace Jane Mellows Eby and lived in the area his lifetime. John worked as a carpenter, truck driver and owned and operated a salvage yard where he worked as a mechanic. He then opened Tack on Wheels, operating it as a horse supply dealer.
Survivors include his wife, LaWanda Ferguson Eby; three sons, Kenneth J. Eby and wife Vicki of Seneca, MO, Tommy R. Eby and Dana of Joplin, Chris A. Eby and wife Teresa of Joplin; six daughters, Vicki L. Thiel and husband Jim of Joplin, Rhonda A. Reynolds and husband Bill of Joplin, Susan D. Gilman and husband Craig of Seneca, Shawn M. Hall and husband Brent of Aurora, MO, L. Johnetta Harper and husband Jason of Joplin, Misti W. Lindquist and husband Jim of Joplin; 23 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant twins, Jimmy and Joyce; a son, John Lee Eby, Jr. and two sisters, Bertha Henson and Dora Coonce.
Memorial visitation will be held Sunday, September 21, 2014 from 2:4:00 pm at the mortuary.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
