Wallace Carr Sr., age 73, passed away August 29, 2014 at the Spring River Christian Village in Joplin.
Wallace was born in Fayetteville, Ark., December 19, 1940 to the late Roland Carr and Helen Maxville Carr. He graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1959, graduated from Missouri Southern State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree and was a Certified Diesel Mechanic. He was employed and worked for Yellow Transit Freight for 30 years, retiring in May, 1977. He then was a substitute teacher for the R-8 School District, Joplin. He was a member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church for over 45 years, serving as Chairman of the Deacon board over 30 years. He also was a member of the Missouri Baptist and National Baptist Layman Movement, where he served as one of the Vice-President.
Wallace is survived by his wife of 52 years, Irene Carr, daughter, Bonita Pete and husband Timothy, son Wallace Carr Jr., seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, his mother, Helen, Maxville Smith, a brother, Edward Wilks, sister Flora Ann Phillips and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, and friends.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday September 6, 2014 at Mason-Woodard Mortuary, with Reverend Nero Jr. and Reverend Bobby Roberson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
