Eugene W. Davis, 67, Carthage, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, August 31, 2014 at his home in Morgan Heights. Eugene Warren Davis was born April 1, 1947 in Barton County, MO; a son of the late Warren C. Davis and Helen M. (Dorsett) Davis. He was a graduate of Carthage Senior High School, Class of 1965; was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and owned Carthage Vending Machine Co. for over 40 years. Gene married Danna Lowe in August, 1994; she preceded him in death on May 18, 2002. Gene was affectionately known as the “Candy Man”. He worked faithfully in the field of vending; was a loyal Chiefs fan, a loyal father and a very faithful member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughter; Kelly Dawn Mitchell of which he was the primary caregiver, Karen Williams and Vicky Kershaw, all of Carthage; a son, Terry (Shirley) Lowe, Sallisaw, OK; a sister Janet (Kenny) Shumney, Carthage; a brother, Wayne (Maria) Davis, Chicago, Illinois; three grandsons, Brad Lowe, Jeffrey Williams and Dustin Mitchell; five great granddaughters and two great grandsons; two nieces and four nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 4:00 PM, Friday, September 5 at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, East on 96 Highway. Minister Danny Young will officiate. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Calvary Baptist Church, Carthage, MO for the Mt. Vernon Baptist Children’s Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Knell Mortuary, Carthage, MO.
