Larry Mitzner

 Larry Dean Mitzner, age 66, of Lamar, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at his home.
     Larry was born July 26, 1948 at Fort Scott, Kansas, the youngest of the ten children of John and Pearl (Martin) Mitzner.  He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Bobby Joe Mitzner; a brother, Johnny Lee Mitzner; and a sister, Pat Ballou.
     On June 20, 1968 Larry became a U.S. Marine, serving in Vietnam where he was wounded and awarded a Purple Heart.  Though he lost a leg in the war, Larry never considered himself disabled and had worked as a self-employed tuck-pointer and installed flooring and wall tile.  An outdoorsman, Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing and time spent with his dogs.  He read the Joplin Globe from cover to cover daily and was a wrestling and football fan.
     On April 6, 1992, at Hiattville, Kansas, Larry married Sandra Kay Ewing and she survives.  Also surviving are four children from a previous marriage, Kevin Lee, Billy Jo, Crystal Suzanna, and Jamie Lee; five brothers, Jerry (Joy) Mitzner, Mindenmines, David (Geneva) Mitzner, Fontana, Kansas; Steve Mitzner, Armania, Columbia, Bill (Mary Beth) Mitzner, Osawatomie, Kansas, and Fred (Irma Lea) Mitzner, Fort Scott; and two sisters, Martha Jane Petrie, Bronson, Kansas, and Anna Darlene Woods of Fort Scott.
     The family will receive friends at 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Saturday, September 27th at Daniel Funeral Home.  Full military honors will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fort Scott National Cemetery at a later date.
