George I. Adams, age 96, Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Freeman West Hospital.
It was a happy and joyous day on November 14, 1917 when George Ivan Adams was born to his parents, Bryan L. Adams and Margaret Fry Adams. He attended Baxter Springs School, and then served in the United States Army during World War II where he did battle with the German and Japanese, and received two purple hearts, a bronze star, among other medals and citations. He returned to this area and worked for Root Manufacturing Company for 11 years, and then LaBarge for over 26 years as a supervisor in quality control. It was at LaBarge where he met and fell in love with his late wife, Gloria Moffet Booe Adams. They were married July 6, 1976. During their marriage, they traveled extensively to many different places. They were members of the V.F.W. where George was a lifetime member at Baxter Springs V.F.W. #408, and the Eagle's Lodge of Joplin. Gloria passed from this life to her new home in Heaven on November 29, 2012.
In addition to his wife Gloria, and his parents, George was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Leonard, sisters, Gladys Adams and Emma Belle Bingham.
George is survived by two step-children, Mike Booe and wife Donna, Diana Booe Drake, all of Joplin; grandchildren, Sophia Acevedo and husband Raymond of Carterville, Missouri, Brandon Drake of St. Louis, Nick Booe and wife Deidra, and Michelle Booe Johnson and husband Jamie all of Joplin; 12 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in Gandy/Rest- A-While Cemetery, Lowell, Kansas with Rev. Bobby Cooper officiating and family serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Friday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
