Sharon L. Oxford, age 67 of Joplin, MO, passed away suddenly at her home at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2014.
Born December 10, 1946 in Pittsburg, KS, she was the daughter of the late Ray and Nellie Shackelton Carey and lived in the Seneca, Neosho and Joplin areas most of her lifetime. Sharon graduated from Seneca High School with the class of 1964. She worked as a nurses aid both for health care facilities and provided in-home care for the elderly. A member of Faith Assembly of God in Joplin, she attended Home Groups and participated in the former Seniors Group.
Survivors include her daughter, Lucinda (Cyndee) Oxford and her fiancé Ben West along with his daughter, Tori; two brothers, Charles Carey and his wife Marilyn of Aurora, MO, Dennis Carey and his wife Kareen of Riverside, FL; two sisters, Pat Zickefoose of Barkleysville, PA, Debbie Mertens of Joplin; her former husband, John (Jay) Oxford; and several nieces and nephews.
Sharon was preceded in death by a daughter, Shael Hanke and her unborn daughter; along with a brother, Clayton Carey.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
A Celebration of Sharon’s Life will be held 10:30 a.m. on Monday at Faith Assembly of God with Rev. Larry Griffins officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Assembly of God.
