Dorothy Mae Walker, 80, Sheldon, MO passed away on Monday, May 6, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin following a brief illness. Dorothy was born October 2, 1938 in Ordway, CO to Verl and Ester Johnson. She married Edward D. Walker on June 9, 1967 in Miami, OK and he preceded her in death on November 11, 2000.
Dorothy attended school in Lockwood and Golden City. She came to Sheldon in 1957 and worked as a waitress at various restaurants in the Sheldon area. Dorothy was a member of Sheldon Christian Church and the Sheldon Lions Club. In 2013 she was the Grand Marshal of the Sheldon Old Settlers Picnic. Dorothy loved fishing and camping. She was also well known for her fudge and divinity that she made each year at Christmastime.
Survivors include four children, Danny Lee Johnson, Fairland, OK, Daniel Walker and his wife Dee, Lamar, MO, Dennis Walker and his wife Sandy, Sheldon, Debbie Huggins and her husband Roger, Sheldon, MO; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren (number seven arriving in July); one sister, Bettie Helsel, Colorado Springs, CO; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Edward, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Willa Faye McNary.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2019 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Wayne Coble officiating. Interment will follow in Sheldon Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
