Mr. Alan Eugene McAdams, 78, of Joplin, Missouri, departed this life on Friday, October 18, 2019, while at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri, after a brief illness.
Alan entered this life on March 25, 1941, in Loup City, Nebraska, son of the late Charles L. and Margaret A. (McGlone) McAdams. He was raised in Tarkio, Missouri and graduated from Tarkio High School in the class of 1959. He furthered his education at the University of Missouri receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry.
On October 26, 1968, he was united in marriage to Joy Louise Croston and together they shared forty-three years before her passing on January 20, 2012. They resided in Nebraska, Iowa and Texas before moving to Springfield, Missouri, in 1989 and eventually to Joplin in 1993. He was a Sales Rep throughout his life for various building supply companies. While living in Nebraska he managed Bayard Lumber Yard for many years.
He was a devout Catholic and was member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Joplin. He enjoyed creative writing, researching family genealogy, photography and entertaining his family and friends with his wit and humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joy McAdams; a son, Charles McAdams; a grandson, Alan Deal; and four brothers, Charles, David, Robert and Mick McAdams.
Alan is survived by his five children, Rochelle Laborico and husband, David, of Dickinson, North Dakota, Barbara Lingle and husband, Robert, of Diamond, Missouri, Margaret Keenan and husband, Patrick, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Todd McAdams of Bellevue, Nebraska and Philip McAdams also of Colorado Springs; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; a sister, Mary McAdams of Tarkio, Missouri; a brother, Stephen McAdams and wife, Betty, of Webb City, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday morning, October 22, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Joplin, Missouri, with Father J. Friedel officiating. Graveside services are 12:00 noon on Wednesday at the Home Cemetery in Tarkio, Missouri with Father Peter Ullrich, OSB officiating. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Patrick Cochran, Todd McAdams, Devin Reynolds, Jonathan Keenan, Brandon Cochran and Josh Cochran. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Parker Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri.
