Helen Flint

(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)

Helen Louise Flint, 94, long-time resident of Joplin, passed away on Sunday morning, October 20, 2019, at her son’s home in Galena, Kansas, after an extended illness.

Mrs. Flint was the wife of life-long Joplin resident, Ray Flint, who preceded her in death in 2007, after 56 years of marriage. Helen was a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many in the four-state area. Many of her friendships revolved around her church life that started in Wentworth, MO, in the Presbyterian Church. Her parents, Blanche and Harlie Hull were strong Christians who taught their children the most basic principles of the Christian faith and life that Helen so sincerely embraced. These roots of her early years would serve as the foundation for the godly lady that she was.

Helen volunteered with American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, and Easter Seals, as well as serving as an election officer. She was active in her children’s activities, sports and school events, serving as a room mother and den mother.

Mrs. Flint served the Lord as a Sunday School teacher for children, youth, young adults, and College and Career. She enjoyed working as WMU Director and on the library committee, having been a member at Forest Park Baptist Church, Carterville First Baptist Church, Calvary Baptist Church, and currently Fellowship Baptist Church.

Helen was a valiant prayer warrior, praying for others daily. Whenever she would enter the throne room of God, she always presented others before herself.
In her early adult years, Helen worked at Ramsay’s Department Store and Tamko Asphalt Products. She also worked as a long-distance telephone operator, but her greatest vocation was being wife, mother, and grandmother.

Helen was affectionately cared for by her sons, Roger and Richard, and daughters-in-law, Nancy and Cheryl. She had also been encouraged by the love and affection of many friends and family through countless cards, calls, and visits.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son, Dennis; daughter-in-law, Jenny; her brothers, Clyde Hull, George Hull and his wife Iola; Roy Hull and his wife, Cuba; Ralph Hull and his wife, Nadine; and brother-in-law, Lowell Reid, of Muskogee.
Helen is survived by two sons, Richard Flint (Cheryl), of Diamond, and Roger Flint (Nancy), of Galena, KS; as well as one sister, Jennie Reid, of Muskogee, OK. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Brandon Jones (Catriona) of Joplin; Tori Hayes (Kyler) of Mountain Grove; Chelsea Gordon (Kyle) of Omaha, NE; Tessa Taylor (Zach) of Cabool; Dylan Flint of Joplin; Tatum Whitehill (Jared) of Mountain Grove; and Taylor Flint of Quincy, IL. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Solace House of the Ozarks or Gideons, International.
