Bob Russell

Robert G. "Bob" Russell, age 92, Joplin, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at Mercy of Joplin.

Bob was born November 20, 1926, in Picher, Oklahoma, son of the late William Russell and Anna O. (Oliver) Russell. He moved to Joplin as a child and attended Joplin Schools, graduating from Joplin High School where he was a member of the Orchestra and ROTC. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp reserves in 1944 and was called to active duty during World War II. After the war, he served in the Reserves for six more years.

Bob returned to Joplin and attended Pittsburg State Teachers College from 1946-1950, where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business. He worked several jobs throughout the years, but the majority of his time was with Western Electric and AT&T where he worked for over 24 years, retiring from Lucent Technologies (formerly Western Electric and AT&T) as a Production Manager. He enjoyed his cars and pets over the years and was a member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 10, Commemorative Air Force as a life member, and the First Presbyterian Church of Joplin.








In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Marcia E. Russell, who passed on January 26, 2014; and his brother, William O. Russell.

Survivors include a niece, Barbara Amadeo (Charlie), of Joplin, and great-niece and great-nephew, Amanda and William.

Private graveside services will be held with full military honors at Highland Park Cemetery, Pittsburg, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joplin Humane Society in care of the mortuary.

Funeral arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
