Christine Reed

Christine Louise Reed, age 74, of Joplin, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at The Communities of Wildwood in Joplin. Mrs. Reed, daughter of the late Dr. Freeman and Inez (Irwin) Claxton, was born on January 21, 1945 in Salinas, CA. She attended Oklahoma Christian College for 2 years and Missouri Southern State University for 3 years where she graduated with her Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education.

On March 27, 1964 she was united in marriage to Forrest Reed in Konawa, OK when both Christine and Forrest were students at Oklahoma Christian College. Together they moved to the Joplin area in July of 1967.

Christine was retired from Joplin R-VIII Schools as a teacher, having taught for almost twenty years, including Lafayette and Cecil Floyd schools.








In 1994, Christine received a heart transplant. She often stated how blessed she was by the wonderful and talented doctors and nurses in the Transplant Team at St. Luke’s Heart institute in Kansas City. She was also a member of the Mount Hope Church of Christ where she volunteered numerous hours.

Survivors include her husband, Forrest Reed, of Joplin; two sons, Russell Neal Reed, and his partner, Hollie Sue Dvorak, of Joplin, MO., Garrett Claxton Reed, and wife, Zoe, of St. Louis, MO.; one daughter, Dr. Robin Meyer, and her husband, Jeff, of Sioux Falls, SD; three grandchildren, Bennett Claxton Reed, Jackson Jeffry Meyer and Audrey Christine Meyer; one brother, Dr. Carl Claxton, and his wife, Linda, of Springfield, MO.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 28, 2019 at 10:00 am at the Mount Hope Church of Christ, with burial to follow at Ozark Memorial Park in Joplin. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 27th from 3:00 pm till 4:00 pm at the Mason-Woodard Chapel in Joplin. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Neosho Christian School in care of the mortuary.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Crematory, Joplin.
