Carl Gene Williams, age 80, of Washburn, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield.
He was born Feb. 18, 1939 in Washburn. He was 2nd of 9 children to Gladys (Gardner) Williams and Rolland “Bus” Williams.
On July 17, 1969 he married Jan Williams of Oklahoma, who survives. They have two children, a daughter Carla Sutliff and husband Mark of Springfield. A son Larry Williams of Monett. From a previous marriage – a son Harold Williams and Rita of Rogers, Ark. Mary Ann Williams, Rogers, Ark. Ginger Collins of Perkins, Okla. Surviving – a sister Shirley Dean of Washburn, Linda Pippin of Bella Vista, Ark. And Julie of Little Rock, Ark., Sister-in-law Mary Williams of Gateway, Ark. Sister-in-law Nancy Williams of Carthage. He has a brother Jack Williams and Alma of Cassville. He had 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents Gladys and “Bus” Williams, his brothers Leon, Bill, Jim and Johnny. A son, Carl “Willie” Williams of Rogers, Ark, a granddaughter Stacey of Rogers, Ark.
At age 17 he joined the Army with his brother Leon. He was in for 20 years. Overseas duties were Panama, Korea twice, Vietnam and Greece. He received the Bronze Star in Vietnam. He was a Drill Sgt. at Ft. Sill 6 years. After retiring from the Army, he had a grain trailer for 20 years.
Family will remember his sense of humor and his love for his family and bluegrass music.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Burial with military honors will be at Washburn Prairie Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.
