Dorothy Abernathy

Dorothy H. Abernathy, 90, Neosho, entered into rest on October 22, 2019 in Joplin, following a sudden illness.

Dorothy was born March 5, 1929 in Carthage, one of eleven children to Oscar and Laura (Lewis) Cupp. She was a lifelong area resident and worked at La Z Boy for many years, retiring 28 years ago. Dorothy enjoyed quilting and gardening and most especially being with her family. She was of the Baptist Faith. 

Dorothy and David L. Abernathy were married on July 1, 1972 and he preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 2015. She is survived by her children, Linda Taylor of Diamond, Bill Lewis of Neosho, Connie Sreaves and husband, Steve of Winoka, OK, Donna Gilbert and husband, Jack of Seneca, Brenda Roller and husband, Tim of Neosho; two sons in law, Danny Booth of Granby and Jim Gilbert of Neosho; sixteen grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren and twenty two great great grandchildren. 








In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Gilbert, stepdaughter, Penny Booth, son-in-law, Richard Taylor, grandson, David Henry, great grandson, Wesley Hood; six brothers and four sisters. 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 25, 2019 at 2 pm at the Clark Funeral Chapel of Memories, Terry Abernathy will officiate. 

Interment will follow in the Gibson Cemetery and serving as pallbearers will be Richard Taylor, Mike Gilbert, Roger Gilbert, Bob Coffey, Scotty Roller, Charles Gray and honorary pallbearer, Vance Gilbert. The family will receive friends at a time of visitation Thursday evening from 6 to 7 pm at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.
