Vesta Faye Bowyer was born on June 3, 1934 in the Dickenson County Kansas community of Hope to Samuel E. and Goldia A. Longhofer. She passed into the presence of her Savior who she faithfully served and loved on October 25, 2019 at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 22 days.
She attended school at Chapman High School where she met the love of her life, Jack Bowyer. They were married on April 24, 1955 and remained united in matrimony until Jack's passing in February 2019.
Immediately after graduation, she began cooking and driving a school bus at Rural Center near her childhood home. Vesta was a devoted prayer warrior, wife and homemaker. She gave of herself to assist her husband with numerous endeavors ranging from building airplanes, remodeling the family home, running a beef and dairy farm, and pastoring churches for over 20 years.
Vesta was a fixture at numerous nursing homes in the Neosho / Seneca area where as a young mother she would weekly lead her children and others to sing, a tradition that she continued with her grandchildren and passed on to her daughters. She was instrumental in the construction of Jack's many airplane projects as evidenced by bucking rivets on his first project, a Flying Wing, the evening before their third child was born.
Vesta maintained a prayer list and faithfully prayed daily for dozens of people, especially pastors. She and her husband privately supported several missionaries and Christian organizations during their nearly 64 years of marriage. Her family always felt that Proverbs 31 was written about her as they always had a warm home, clean clothes and plenty of good food, but most of all, love.
Vesta is survived by her three children, Kim Bowyer and wife Maureen of Goodman, Kathy Bradford and husband, Paul of Neosho and Kala Shuler and husband David, also of Neosho. One brother, Garland 'Chub' Longhofer of Hutchison, Kansas and a sister-in-law Lois Longhofer of Junction City, Kansas; eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, Verl Longhofer and Lloyd Longhofer and three great grandchildren.
