Frederick G. Naatz, age 93, Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at his home.
Fred was born April 5, 1926 in Janesville, Wisconsin, son of the late . He graduated from high school and then served in the United States Navy where he was at Pearl Harbor following the invasion. He worked a photographer after his service in the Navy, traveling the country before settling in the Joplin area. He would then begin his career as a sheet metal fabricator, and began Naatz Sheet Metal which he owned and operated for many years.
He was of the Baptist faith, and was an avid golfer, enjoying his time with friends. He and his wife were victims of the Joplin tornado, and spent two days buried in the rubble prior to being rescued. He lost his wife on December 24, 2011 as a result of injuries she sustained in the tornado.
In addition to his wife and parents, Fred was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Wessell.
Survivors include his grandson, Stephen Wessell and wife Wendee of Pierce City, Missouri; granddaughter, Wendi Sitton of Monett, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Isaac Wessell, Hailee Sitton, Lillie Sitton, Mollie Sitton, Joshua Lester, and Kaylee Lester; brother, Robert Naatz of Janesville, Wisconsin; two sisters, Jean Michael of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Tootsie Schenkl and husband Fred of Janesville; several nieces and nephews, and his care giver, Zenith Emory of Joplin.
Memorial services will be Sunday, October 20, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Howard Nunnelly officiating.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
Inurnment of Fred and Betty's ashes will be at a later date at the V A National Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri.
