Clem Prettyman

Mr. Clemith Edward “Clem” Prettyman, 83, of Joplin, Missouri, a longtime area Barber, departed this life on Friday morning, October 18, 2019, in the comfort of his home after a recent decline in health.

Clem entered this life on December 6, 1935, in Mulberry, Kansas, son of the late Roy Edward “Bud” and Juanita (Lakey) Prettyman. He was raised in Mulberry and was a 1954 graduate of Mulberry High School. 

On August 31, 1957, he was united in marriage to Sherry Kaye Richmond and to this union a daughter and son were born. In 1958, he was drafted into the United States Army, serving his country faithfully until his honorable discharge in 1960. After the service, he attended and graduated from Barber School in Kansas City, Missouri. 

In 1961, they moved to Joplin, Missouri, and Clem began employment (eventually owning) Keystone Barber Shop, a career that span the next forty years. Clem was civic minded. He was a longtime member of Big Brothers, serving as president for over thirty-five years, served on the board of directors of Turnaround Ranch and was a member and church treasurer of Southside Baptist Church in Joplin. He enjoyed raising horses, woodworking, hunting, fishing and possessed a deep love for children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sherry Kaye Prettyman on December 30, 2010; a granddaughter, Kathy Desourdy; and a brother, Art Prettyman.

On August 6, 2011, he married Lucy Seales and together they have shared the last eight years, she survives of the home. 








Additional survivors include his two children, Tammy Meadows and husband, Dale, of Joplin and Ken Prettyman and wife, Teresa, of Gardner, Kansas; a stepson, Rick Seales of Battle Mountain, Nevada; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother, Jerry Prettyman of Sellersburg, Indiana; a sister, Wanda Perkins of Pittsburg, Kansas; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Prettyman are 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at Southside Baptist Church in Joplin with Mark Ledford, Wes Ogden and Ken Prettyman officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Rosebank Cemetery in Mulberry, Kansas. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Ken Prettyman, Dale Meadows, Russ Leinmiller, Ethen Prettyman, Shawn Meadows and Barry Brown. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials are being directed to Turnaround Ranch c/o the Mortuary. 

Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri.
