Joyce Gentzler

Joyce Leone (Johannes) Gentzler passed away at 7:45 p.m. on October 26, 2019, at Webb City Health and Rehab after an illness of 11 months. She was in the company of her family members at her passing.

Joyce was born on September 30, 1942, in Hutchinson, Kansas, the third daughter of John Everett and Ila Johannes. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Kathryn Ross; and her very good friend, Judy Howery.

Joyce and Rolland Gentzler met in December 1960. After a whirlwind romance, they were married on July 8, 1961, in Hutchinson. Rolland survives.








Other survivors are her sister, Bertha Dell "Bert" Cairns, of Hutchinson; three children, Kevin Gentzler (Kathy) of Leavenworth, Kansas, Kristy Gentzler (Steve), and Jon Gentzler (April) of Joplin and Carl Junction; seven grandchildren, Joshua (Melissa), Sarah (Nate), Zach, Rebecca, Anthony, Alec, Gabby; three great-grandchildren, Paisley, Emma and Ellie; two step-great-grandchildren.

Joyce worked professionally as a medical transcriptionist from home. She was talented in many areas. Joyce started Project Linus in 2003, a program that made weighted blankets for ill children. She was artistic and loved to draw and paint. Joyce was musically inclined and able to play both the organ and piano. She also enjoyed cooking, homemaking, and she loved her husband, children, grandkids, and her nieces and nephews. Joyce will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with Pastor Tim Oster officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday following the service. Cremation will follow and inurnment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to the Bill and Virginia Leffen Center for Autism in care of the mortuary.

Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
