Mary Jean Wilson, age 71 of Joplin, passed away at 12:23 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Freeman West Hospital.
Born December 22, 1943 in Joplin, she was the daughter of the late Guy and Violet Fields Scurlock and lived in the Joplin area her lifetime. A Licensed Practical Nurse, she served Jane Chinn Hospital, St. John's Hospital Galena Manor and Barker's Rest Home from 1963 until retiring in 1993. She also served lovingly as caretaker for several of her family members. Mary enjoyed fishing, going to the casino and watching her grandson, Michael race.
On November 21, 1964, she married Michael P. Wilson in Joplin. He survives.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Michell Sturgis and husband Ed of Galena, KS, Lori Streight and husband Michael of Joplin; one son, Bo Wilson of Joplin; six grandchildren, Michael and Cheyenne Wilson, Tanner Neblett and wife Amanda, Luke Streight, Marshall Wilson and Brodie Wilson; one great-grandson, Jackson Tullis; three cousins, Janice Vandever, Judy Gunlock and Julie Vandever; and lifelong best friend, Rita Baker of Joplin.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a brother, Sonny Stone.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. Private services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society in care of the mortuary.
