(From Parker Mortuary)Allen Ray Shirley, age 71, passed away Friday, August 13, 2021, at Freeman West in Joplin.
Allen was born October 27, 1949, to the late Reuben and Izola (Hendricks) Shirley. After graduating from Miami (OK) High School, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with emphasis in Marketing from Pittsburg State University.
On February 5, 1972, Allen was united in marriage to Paula Holmes. Together they shared 49 years of marriage before her passing on August 2, 2021, and had one daughter, Rachel (Shirley) Abbott.
Allen spent nearly his entire professional career (32 years) in the medical industry working for Johnson & Johnson as a pharmaceutical sales representative. After he retired in 2011, he focused on his love of history and became a board member (and frequent exhibit creator) at the Joplin History & Mineral Museum.
Survivors include his daughter Rachel, his daughter-in-law Carla Abbott, his brother Dennis Shirley, several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Parker Mortuary. Celebration of Life details will be determined and shared at a later time.
