Gary Nelson

Gary Lee Nelson, 78, Webb City, Missouri, passed away Sunday afternoon, August 29, 2021, at his home with family by his side. 

Gary was born October 11, 1942, in Carthage, Missouri, the son of Lee Nelson and Gladys (Lambeth) Nelson. He was a 1960 graduate of Carthage High School. 

Gary married the love of his life, Judy Turpen, on May 21, 1965, in Alba, Missouri. 








He worked as a farmer for most of his life and ran heavy equipment. His most recent job was working as County Roads Superintendent for Jasper County for 18 years. He was a member of the Jasper County Young Farmers, Missouri Cattlemen’s Association, and attended the Purcell Baptist Church. Gary enjoyed pheasant hunting, going to the coffee shop, but most of all, loved his family.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Judy Nelson; two sons, Roger Nelson and wife Lisa, Webb City, Missouri, and Michael Nelson and fiancée Tonya Blankenship, Alba, Missouri; a sister, Patty Law, Carthage, Missouri; and his precious Boxer, Maddie.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held 2 pm, Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. The family will receive friends from 1 pm until service time at the mortuary. Burial will follow the service in Park Cemetery, Carthage. Memorial gifts are suggested to Hospice Compassus or Purcell Baptist Church in care of Knell Mortuary.
