Jan Johnson

(From Parker Mortuary)

Jan Susan Johnson, age 62, of Joplin, Missouri, peacefully passed while surrounded by her family on August 19, 2021 after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Jan born in Sacramento, California on November 9, 1958 to the late Patrick Williams of Sand Springs, Oklahoma and Patty Galbraith of Joplin, Missouri.

Jan was one of five siblings. Although Jan was born a California girl, she moved to Joplin, Missouri in the early 70’s where she attended Joplin schools, graduating from Parkwood High School in 1976. Jan then attended college in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she received her degree in dental assistance.

After receiving her degree, she began working for Dr. JW McAlister in 1985, and continued to work for Dr. Edward McAlister when he took over the practice. Jan was a go-getter. Throughout her 35-year career, she transitioned to office manager at the dental practice. She developed and evolved her relationship with not only the patients, but also her work family.

On September 7, 1985 Jan married the love of her life, Wayne B Johnson, of Joplin. They spent 29 precious years together before his passing, February 19, 2014. Together they had one daughter, whom they adored, Kathryn (Katy) Marie Johnson of Joplin and, if you know the Johnson family, it isn’t complete without their beloved Bassett Hound, Bud.

Jan was always living life to the fullest with friends and family enjoying the pool, summers at the lake, or concerts. She will always be loved and remembered by her extended family, her nieces and nephews, and many friends. Jan had an infectious smile and personality. She cherished the time spent and memories created with her husband, daughter, family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Jan is lovingly survived by her daughter, Katy Johnson of Joplin, Missouri; mother, Patty Galbraith of Joplin, Missouri; step-mother, Elizabeth Williams of Alexandria, Virginia; siblings, Mike Williams and wife Michelle of Rogers, Arkansas, Connie Williams of Oronogo, Missouri, Todd Williams of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Tanya Gouge and husband, Felix of Alexandria, Virginia; together with many extended family members and friends.

The family will receive friends and visitors at Parker Mortuary on Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 5-7pm.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Parker Mortuary.
