Mary Kugler

Mary Kugler, 84, lifelong Parsons resident, died at 4:08 p.m., Sunday, August 29, 2021 at the Parsons Presbyterian Manor.

She was born May 1, 1937 to Lurie Garland and Leota (Slane) Bolander. She attended a rural school and graduated from Parsons High School in 1955. She loved to sing and while in high school and junior college was an active member of the Polychromes, her church choir and the Parsons Community Choir. 










In 1957 she graduated from Parsons Junior College. She attended summer sessions at Kansas State College of Pittsburg and taught two years at the Inglish School.

Mary had worked for a short time at the J. J. Newberry Store, at Adventure Line Manufacturing Co. and for seven years at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center. She worked at several nursing homes as a certified nursing assistant and was at the Elmhaven West Nursing Home 15 years.

Mary was a life member and past president of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, was the auxiliary soloist and held various offices until her health declined. She was an avid bingo player. She was a long time member of the Faith United Methodist Church where she was a soloist and choir member. She also belonged to the Eagles Auxiliary and was a Past President of the Parsons Teacher’s Association.

On June 10, 1956 she and Keith Kugler were married at the former Evangelical United Brethren Church. They later divorced.

Survivors are four children, Kent Kugler of Joplin, Missouri, Pat Thompson of Oswego, Kansas, Kathy Duff (Greg) of Thayer, Kansas and Kim Wills (Ryan) of Columbus, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; four brothers, Jim Bolander (Ineke) of Belmont, California, Jack Bolander of Fairfield, California, John Bolander (Linda) of Parsons, Kansas and Jerry Bolander (Tandy) of Bella Vista, Arkansas; three sisters, Martha Merrill (John) of Newnan, Georgia, Linda Darkis (Jimmie) of Parsons, Kansas and Carol Moore (Noel) of Coffeyville, Kansas; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Bolander of Ft. Collins, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Joe Bolander and a granddaughter Chenelle Thompson.


Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at the Faith United Methodist Church, with Pat McReynolds officiating. The service will be live-streamed to the Carson-Wall Funeral Homes Face Book page. Burial will be in East Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Wednesday.
