(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)DeGee (Mieir) Brown of Joplin, Missouri went to be with Jesus on Friday, August 27, 2021.
She was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on October 26, 1962 and grew up in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Oak Grove, Missouri before becoming a longtime resident of Joplin. She had a great love for children and teaching.
She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Missouri Southern State University in 1986 and went on to receive her Master’s degree from Grand Canyon University in 2012. She taught for two years at St. Ann’s Catholic School in Carthage, 25 years in Joplin R-8 school district, and three years in Carthage R-9 school district before returning to St. Ann’s for another five years.
DeGee married her best friend and the love of her life, Mark Brown, on July 27, 1985. She is survived by Mark and their children, Aaron, Alyssa, and Lauren; her father Bill Mieir and his wife, Dorothy; her brothers Billy, Mark, and Alex Mieir; and many more friends and family.
She was a strong, and sometimes stubborn, Christian woman as well as a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and great-aunt. She loved her family and friends, her students and co-workers, Christmastime, reading, chocolate, books, and autumn leaves. There is comfort in knowing she is without pain in the arms of Jesus and is celebrating with her family and friends, despite the void left in her absence. She touched many lives, and her memory will continue to do so for years to come.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at College Heights Christian Church with Minister Bill Mieir, officiating. Family will be receiving friends from 3:00 to 4:00 pm.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
