Mary Stockton

Mary Frances Cullison Stockton, 83, most recently of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and formerly of Carthage, Missouri and Overland Park, Kansas, passed away August 18, 2021, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. 

She was born May 25, 1938, in Kansas City, Missouri to Burre Rolla and Wilma Cullison. She graduated from Paseo High School in 1956, attended Kansas City Junior College and received certification from Kansas City IBM Accounting School. She worked for Skelly Oil Company and Midwest Research Institute in Kansas City. 

She married Kenton Lea Stockton on October 12, 1963, in Carthage, Missouri where they raised their two children.






 

Mary Frances was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Carthage, Missouri where she was an ordained deacon, choir member, and Sunday school teacher. She loved to play bridge and belonged to numerous women’s bridge groups, and with her husband, played couples bridge with many of their friends. She was an active PTA mom and Girl Scout leader for many years. She enjoyed reading, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and following horse racing. Annual trips to Hot Springs, Arkansas to attend the horse races was always a must. In later years, her favorite pastime was doing cross stitch, crocheting, and making keepsake baby quilts that were given to all the babies of family and friends. She loved to travel with her husband and children, and their travels took them to nearly every state in the country.

One of her favorite experiences was traveling to Europe with her husband and some very close friends. Mary Frances was instrumental in organizing annual US Air Force OCS class reunionsfor her husband’s OCS graduating class members that were held all over the United States. For this group, as well as, two Oklahoma American Legion Posts, she arranged for each member to be presented with a patriotic, hand-made quilt from the group Quilts of Valor.

Upon her husband’s retirement, Mary Frances and her husband, Ken, moved to Overland Park, Kansas, where they resided until November 2012. They then moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to be near their daughter. At this time, she became a member of Hampton Presbyterian Church, Everton, Missouri, where her husband is buried. After her husband’s death, Mary Frances moved into her daughter and son-in-law’s home, and in the following years made many new friends and became a member of the Broken Arrow Women’s Club, where she eventually became the club’s treasurer.

Mary Frances is preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by daughter, Shelley Ann Wynn (Troy), Broken Arrow, Oklahoma;son, John Cullison Stockton, Garberville, California and the Philippines; sister, Emogene Engle (Edward); nieces, Laura Berg (Roger) and Mary Susan Davidson (Doug); two great-nieces, two great-nephews, and three great great nieces, all of Overland Park, Kansas; and many extended family members.

Graveside services will be 2:00PM, Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Hampton Cemetery, Everton MO.
