Carolyn Hobbs

Carolyn Ruth Hobbs, age 96, of Golden City, Missouri passed away peacefully at home on August 17, 2021, after a long illness.

Carolyn was born January 8, 1925 in DeLand, Florida to Ernest Robert Freed and Gertrude (Buck) Freed. She spent most of her childhood moving from place to place in Oklahoma while her father worked in the oil fields. 

After retiring, the family settled in McDonald County, Missouri, where she met her future husband, Jesse Dale "Jack" Hobbs. They were married on December 29, 1942 in Neosho, Missouri. 








Jack and Carolyn were happily married for over 70 years, until Jack's passing on April 2, 2013. They spent their early years living around Anderson, Missouri and Norton, Kansas and other places until they settled on a farm east of Lamar in 1948. In 1976 they moved to south of Golden City, later on in 2000, they made their final move to Golden City.

Carolyn was a big gardener and loved all kinds of flowers. She raised chickens and goats. She was also a talented artist, and she often played the organ or piano at Dudenville Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter; Karen Murphy of Springfield, Missouri, a son; Kelton (Deborah) Hobbs of Lamar, three grandchildren; Adrienne (Jordan) Burgess of Galena, Kansas, Trevor Hobbs of Pittsburg, Kansas and Leyna (Jeremy) Mathews of Nixa, Missouri, five great-grandchildren; Ethan, Frankie, Jesse and George Burgess and JJ Mathews,

Preceding Carolyn in death were her parents, her husband Jack, and an infant son in 1944.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 23, 2021, at Avilla Cemetery in Avilla, Missouri.

Contributions are suggested and made payable to Children's Mercy Hospital or the Muscular Dystrophy Association in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
