(From Carson-Wall Funeral Home)Kristina “Kris” Chaney, 61, of Parsons, died at 12:30 A.M., Monday, August 23, 2021 at the Freeman West Health System in Joplin.
She was born April 15, 1960 at Chanute, a daughter of Thomas Edwin and Bessie Mae (Herndon) Leatherman. She grew up and attended school in Parsons and lived in Southeast Kansas most of her life.
She was united in marriage to Byron Rees on November 17, 1983 at Springfield, OR. They divorced in 2002. She later married Randy Chaney on February 18, 2006 at Parsons. He survives of the home.
She was a Certified Nurse’s Aide and worked in several nursing homes as a CNA and RA. She was also employed at Labette Health in past years.
She loved dolphins and collecting knick-nacks. She also enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandkids and was a care-giver to her mother in-law, Shirley Chaney, who died June 25, 2021. The door was always open to anyone who needed anything.
In addition to her husband, survivors include: three daughters – Shawna Delcour, and her husband, Nickolas, Webb City, MO, Amber Rees, Parsons, KS, Mary Beth Rees-Schaible, Springfield OR; two grandchildren – Jericah and John Schaible, Springfield, OR; her former son in-law – Jeremiah Schaible, Parsons, KS; two brothers – James Brent Leatherman, and his wife, Brenda, Parsons, KS, Tim Peterson, and his wife, Gale, Spring City, TN; two step-brothers – Chuck Ikehorn, Humboldt, KS, Brian Ikehorn, Humboldt, KS; her brother in-law - Rick Chaney, and his wife, Paula, Parsons, KS; three sisters in-law – Tina Beery and her husband, Derek, Columbus, KS, Lisa Chaney, Parsons, KS, Kathy Leatherman, Chicago, IL; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father – Wallace Ikehorn; two brothers – Frank Leatherman and Robert Leatherman; her mother in-law - Shirley Chaney; one nephew – Justin Hughes.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Reverend Wayne Mason officiating. Inurnment will be in Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery at Chanute. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 Monday evening at the funeral home.
