Abdona Capria

Abdona M. Capria, age 85, former teacher and educator for the New York City Department of Education, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023, at the Communities of Wildwood Ranch in Joplin.

Abdona, daughter of the late Zaki and Filomena Chaker, was born on August 21, 1937, in Manila, Philippines. She moved to the United States in 1960 to attend graduate school at Loyola University in Chicago. 









She then met Santine Capria at Boston College and together, they were united in marriage in August of 1961. He preceded her in death on December 29, 1990. She continued teaching until her retirement in 2005, she then moved to Webb City to be with family. She then began attending Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was an educator with Beacon School in Joplin. 

 Abdona dedicated her life to children. Her endless creativity and commitment truly impacted the lives of her students. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family was her greatest joy.








Survivors include her children, Frank Capria, and his wife, Gloria Spindola, of North Boro, MA, Susan Capria, of Peekskill, NY, and Theresa Wilson, and her husband, Darwin, of Webb City; grandchildren, Frank Capria III, Claudia Capria, Sandra Hirsh, Andrew Hirsh, Paul Hirsh, and Conner Wilson; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. In addition to her parents and husband, Abdona was preceded in death by two brothers, George Chaker, and her twin brother, Peter Chaker.

Committal services will be held at a later date in New York.

Cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
