Bessie Norman

(From Derfelt Funeral Home)

Our beloved mother, Bessie A. Norman of Baxter Springs, Kansas, entered the arms of Jesus on Jan.15th 2024.

Bessie was born Oct.7th 1936 to Vern N Davis and Alta F. Lathrope Davis. Bessie is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Betty and Judy, and brothers Bill and Ron. One sister survives, Verna Lee of California.

Bessie was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, ceramics, and raising her kids and grandchildren. Bessie was a very long charter member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Baxter Springs, which she enjoyed many roles within the church. Bessie believed in planting the seed about Jesus in her children, and grandchildren, and many other children that she got the opportunity to share about Jesus. Bessie loved Bible school and looked forward to this every summer. Bessie attended Lebanon schools and graduated from Lebanon High with the class of 1954.

Bessie met the love of her life at the "ice cream parlor" that she worked at in Lebanon and often reminisced on giving "Jimmie" two scoops for a nickel! Jimmie Dwayne Norman and Bessie Ailene Davis were united in marriage on Jan 9, 1955. Unto this union was born Dwayna Lynn Norman of Kansas City MO, Kenneth Brian Norman, John Douglas Norman, Delora Beth Oliver, (Lori), Miami, OK, Leigh Ann Smith and Barry of Baxter Springs, KS, and Steven Dwayne Norman and Brandi of Joplin, MO. Bessie and Jimmie lovingly raised Charles Noble Davis of Baxter Springs, KS (son of Ron Davis, Bessie's brother).

Bessie is preceded in death by her loving husband Jimmie, and sons Kenneth and John Norman.

Bessie and Jimmie have 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren in Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, California, Colorado, and Texas. Bessie's legacy will live on in the hearts of these many children and they will fondly remember her and the lifetime of memories she has given them.

Our hearts will always be sad with your passing "momma", but we will take comfort and find peace in knowing that you are resting in the arms of Jesus and are once again reunited with your one and only true love our daddy Jimmie Dwayne and our brothers. We will love you forever mom, better than "Gold or Sunshine".

Death is never final if you have accepted Jesus Christ into your heart as your Lord and Savior and with knowing this about you momma.... We will see you again.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 19, 2024, at First Church of the Nazarene in Baxter Springs. Arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt's Baxter Chapel. Online condolences may be expressed at www.derfeltfuneralhomes.com.
